A common definition of Massage Therapy is "the manipulation of the body's soft tissues to achieve a therapeutic response". In a nutshell, when you receive a Swedish Massage, the therapist is applying certain techniques to manually work the body's muscles, tendons, skin, ligaments and connective tissue.

Registered Massage Therapists (R.M.T.'s) are trained specifically in Swedish Massage, but you will find every therapist provides a different massage...no two therapists are alike. It is a good idea to try a few therapists to find the right fit.

It is rare in this day and age to meet someone who hasn't had a Swedish Massage. A large majority of people have employee benefits that cover Massage Therapy, and usually try it out at least once. The benefits of Massage Therapy are endless. Even if you don't have any physical ailments, massage is wonderful for the maintenance of good health.

We can't forget the importance of touch. We humans are tactile creatures and need touch in our lives. To deny this basic human need is inhuman. Massage Therapy can provide safe, caring and therapeutic touch. We can't deny we need this.

Note: Many people think that receiving an aggressive "pounding" treatment is good for the body's tissues. I myself practiced that way for years and my clients loved it! What I learned was that forcing my way into a client's tissues actually drives trauma further into the body, which defeats of the purpose of receiving bodywork. I find a gentle, sinking in approach encourages deeper issues to come to the surface, and the body isn't protecting itself by tensing up.
