View Article  What is Craniosacral?
Craniosacral work began in the early 1900's by an osteopath who realized that the tissues between the bones of our skull are actually soft, and allow for slight movement. A healthy cranium therefore expands and contracts in response to fluid movement (cerebrospinal fluid)....therefore any restriction in these delicate tissues can create dysfunction: headaches, dizziness, migraines, TMJ dysfunction, sinus and ear infections.

Craniosacral treatment itself is a very gentle, hands-on manipulation of the cranial bones...a full cranial treatment itself takes approximately an hour altogether, and that is just on the skull alone! What I usually do is add cranial work to the end of my massages, or else at the beginning of a Reiki treatment. Cranial work is absolutely amazing and relaxing!
View Article  What is Reiki?
Reiki came to me by way of one of my clients. He went through all three levels of the Reiki training program, and came in one day for a massage and told me all about it. I was curious, so he gave me a treatment one day...it was amazing! Reiki is hard to explain, so I will provide some explanation below, which I have taken from various sources.

Reiki is an ancient healing art that incorporates the channeling of energy through the hands. Translated from Japanese, Reiki means "Universal Life Energy". This natural energy is within and surrounds all living things. Reiki helps to accelerate natural healing processes by addressing the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels of the body.

Much of our disease is caused by negative energy blockages within the body and Reiki stimulates the release of these energies. It can be used to enhance medical procedures and support the healing of all illnesses.

A Reiki practitioner places his/her hands on certain areas of the body, and the channeled energy is drawn through the hands into the person's body, to the degree and areas it is required. Reiki is non-invasive and very relaxing to the receiver, as well as the practitioner.

Various sensations may be felt while receiving Reiki, and other times nothing may be felt at all. Some people report feeling warm or cold, and others feel the energy or "Ki" rushing through their bodies. It is not uncommon to drift off to sleep.

Reiki is something that you have to experience, and have to believe in. Reiki can change your life, and I can say this because it has changed mine.  All you need is an open mind and heart.
View Article  What is Swedish Massage?
A common definition of Massage Therapy is "the manipulation of the body's soft tissues to achieve a therapeutic response". In a nutshell, when you receive a Swedish Massage, the therapist is applying certain techniques to manually work the body's muscles, tendons, skin, ligaments and connective tissue.

Registered Massage Therapists (R.M.T.'s) are trained specifically in Swedish Massage, but you will find every therapist provides a different massage...no two therapists are alike. It is a good idea to try a few therapists to find the right fit.

It is rare in this day and age to meet someone who hasn't had a Swedish Massage. A large majority of people have employee benefits that cover Massage Therapy, and usually try it out at least once. The benefits of Massage Therapy are endless. Even if you don't have any physical ailments, massage is wonderful for the maintenance of good health.

And we can't forget the importance of touch. We humans are tactile creatures and need touch in our lives. To deny this basic human need is inhuman. Massage Therapy can provide safe, caring and therapeutic touch. We can't deny we need this.
